Having a single set of chromosomes in each
cell. Most higher organisms are diploid -
that is, they have two sets - but some
plants, such as mosses, liverworts, and many
seaweeds are haploid. Male honey bees are
haploid because they develop from eggs that
have not been fertilized. See also meiosis.
